Gods Word Is Right

Psalms 19:8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart.

Read Psalms 19:1-14.

What is the secret of a rejoicing heart? The statutes of the Lord. A statute involves an obligation of some kind, a command or a prohibition issued by a governmental authority. Human nature routinely resists obeying statutes. Take highway speed limits, for example. How few there are who defend them, and how many there are who grumble about them and seek to circumvent them! Each of us considers himself the exception to the rule, resisting compliance as long as possible.

The Christian outlook on God’s commands is entirely different. Christ, of course, is our pattern. He said, I delight to do Thy will, O God; yea, Thy Law is within My heart (Ps. 40:8). Because the Holy Spirit indwells each believer, we can rejoice with the Apostle Paul, It is God that worketh in [us], both to will and to do of His good pleasure (Phil. 2:13).

The simple fact is that when you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord, and trust Him as your Savior, you are committing yourself to the concept that God’s statutes—in other words, those things He asks you to do—are equitable and just. None of God’s laws are what the law courts call capricious and arbitrary. All of His commands are reasonable, right up to His request for the use of your whole life—body, soul, and spirit (Rom. 12:1). Paul says this is your reasonable service.

Will you make up your mind today that what God commands in His Word is absolutely right, equitable, and just? When you pass that volitional milestone, you will suddenly find yourself feeling happier about your compliance with His will. It’s great to be right!
